Have you ever been around someone who is on hyper-alert and is laser-focused on every aspect of their day/week/month/year/life, like 24-7?
You know who I’m talking about, right?
They’re the people in your life who can’t shop without a crazily-detailed shopping list (not knowing if a tomato is a fruit or vegetable doesn’t help!).
It’s 8am and they know in advance what they’ll be eating for dinner that night and every other night that week (of course!).
Their office is immaculate – even at the end of a day – and some of their best memories were made in the aisles of a stationary store.
I know what you’re thinking…
‘Con-trol freak!’
And possibly they are.
But…
They’re also the same people who:
- Remember your birthday and send you a card;
- Are able to help you move house (as long as you give them enough notice; annnnnd
- Help you calculate your repayments so you can buy your dream car.
How are they able to do this?
Simple. They know how to get sh*t done.
You see…
Getting Sh*t Done is a syndrome!
And I’m pretty sure I have it! (self-diagnosed)
Whenever I catch up with my girlfriends and we update each other about what’s been happening in our lives, one of them will always undoubtedly ask, ‘How do you do it all, Jo?’
I remind them that there’s no difference between what I do and what they can do.
We each have 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 365 days in a year.
Even Beyonce. You know this gurl!
But for some reason, I’m able to use my time to achieve the things I want to do to grow my Life Sorted App business, travel with my family and keep my holiday vibes when I return, as well as make time for me and all of the things I love doing by myself, for myself.
So, in this post I share with you my special formula for getting stuff sorted.
And, it’s simpler than you think.
Here goes:
STREAMLINE – SYSTEMISE – AUTOMATE
That’s it.
So let me explain EXACTLY how to do each of these things…
// STREAMLINE
Life is made up of our commitment to ourselves, our family, and our work. That’ why I call BS on trying to strike a work/life balance. Achieving a work/life balance is impossible because life wasn’t meant to be segmented into categories, such as ‘me time’, ‘family time’ and ‘work time’. It was meant to be integrated and streamlined and lived to the max!
This is one of the reasons why I created the Life Sorted App. As a busy wife, daughter, mother and business owner, I struggled to feel present with the people I was with when I was with them. The Life Sorted App gives you a central space to streamline all of your commitments to yourself, your family and your work in a timely and ordered manner.
// SYSTEMISE
Once you understand that you need a central location to store all of your commitments and goals, you’re going to need a system to help you fulfil them.
Most probably, you already have a system for many of the activities you do each day (whether you recognise it or not!).
In order to improve your productivity and efficiency, it’s important to document the steps involved to achieve your goals. Break each one of your goals into smaller actionable steps. Give each of those steps a due date in the Life Sorted App. You can also keep other people in your family or team informed and let them know what their involvement is in the process by using the ATTENDEES Feature. This will ensure you don’t have any extra or missing steps in your process that are stopping you from being as productive as possible or preventing you from reaching your goals.
// AUTOMATE
Once you have locked in a pathway for how you’re going to achieve your goal, it’s a good idea to automate many of the steps along the way. That’s why using a digital calendar like the Life Sorted App is a real game-changer when it comes to productivity. For example, you can set yourself a list of annual events, such as birthdays, holidays and work events using the ANNUALS feature. You enter the information ONCE and the Life Sorted App automates letting you and team members know about these repeatable events each year.
Getting Sh*t Done Syndrome Changed My Life
I haven’t always considered myself to be an ‘organised person’. I was alright at getting stuff sorted, but with the Life Sorted App in my life, I’m able to get MORE sh*t done. I find that if I have these three steps in place (Streamline, Systemise and Automate), life seems to fall into place and I’m thankful for that. I’m more aligned with my goals and the steps I need to take to achieve everything I want to in a year/month/day/minute, and it shows in every aspect of my life.
I’d love to hear from you. What’s something you do that helps you to ‘get sh*t done’? Let us know in the comments below.
